Specialization Guide

Specializations. More commonly called "Skills" are the craft of shinobi and samurai alike. These specializations are the ninja's non-physical(& sometimes physical) tools for combat, support, espionage, etc. Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Medical Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, etc. Each has their own style, mostly easily understood by an experienced foe. All shinobi are limited to Specializations to how may skill points they accumulate, so choose wisely! Below are the list and description of Specializations- including their limitations!

Ninjutsu: One of the three main jutsu categories. Ninjutsu is the most nebulous of the three, and may most simply be described as anything that is not genjutsu or taijutsu.  Most ninjutsu require chakra and hand seals, but this is not always the case. The huge range of ninjutsu's uses is illustrated by its several sub-classifications:  traditional ninjusu, medical ninjutsu, space–time ninjutsu, barrier ninjutsu, and Fuinjutsu. Most ninjutsu use shape transformation, which deals with controlling the form and movement of the ninjutsu, while nature transformation deals with changing the ninjutsu's physical properties.

  • Ninjutsu-(忍術, Literally meaning: Ninja Techniques) The most rudimentary and versatile of the sub-classifications of Ninjutsu/ Thoughl plainly called Ninjutsu, it is more accurate to call it "pure" or "traditional" Ninjutsu. This type of Ninjutsu revolves around the elemental & shape manipulation. Ninjutsu allows the shinobi to manifest chakra outside of their body in various elements and shapes. Such as elemental attacks, or barriers.
  • Medical Ninjutsu-(医療忍術, Iryō Ninjutsu, Literally meaning: Medical Ninja Techniques) is a branch of ninjutsu associated with healing, as well as the manipulation of their own, or another's body, practiced by shinobi categorized as "medical-nin". The use of medical ninjutsu requires very advanced chakra control, as well as extensive knowledge on such things as herbs, medicines, the human body and even poisons. The knowledge of medical ninjutsu can be used for a variety of purposes apart from simply healing. It can be used to create poisonous gas, deranging the target's nervous system, or directly attacking a target with chakra scalpels.
  • Space-Time Ninjutsu-(時空間忍術, Jikūkan Ninjutsu, English TV: "Teleportation Ninjutsu" or "Transportation Techniques", Literally meaning: Space–Time Ninja Techniques) are techniques that allow the users to manipulate the space–time continuum. By manipulating a specific point of space, the user can warp anything targeted into a dimensional void and teleport it to another location instantaneously. All summoning-based techniques are space–time related, as they warp the targets through a dimensional void to the summoner's location. Space–Time Ninjutsu allows one to bypass any Barrier Ninjutsu, as barriers only extend over the dimension they are placed upon, and similarly cannot prevent Space–Time Ninjutsu users from escaping to a dimensional void and then back outside of the barrier's confines. t appears that each specific space-time technique has its own unique dimensional void that other techniques cannot normally access, however, a user can synchronize their respective dimension with the another to gain access to it. To achieve this feat, however, requires an enormous amount of chakra; directly proportional to the distance between dimensions.

  • Barrier Ninjutsu-(結界忍術, Kekkai Ninjutsu, Literally meaning: Barrier Ninja Techniques) is the incorporation of barriers into techniques. Essentially these techniques allow the users to manipulate barriers. The user can erect barriers that can be used to protect themselves, or to trap an opponent, among other various uses. Barriers can be used for a variety of purposes, such as to prevent outsiders from entering, as with the Five-Seal Barrier; to prevent those inside from leaving the confines of the barrier, and even to prevent those trapped within from using certain techniques.
  • Fuinjutsu-(封印術, Literally meaning: Sealing Techniques) are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. Fūinjutsu can also be used to restrict movement or unseal objects either from within something or someone.

Taijutsu: Taijutsu (体術, Literally meaning: Body Techniques) is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally requires no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses, and are far quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu. Taijutsu is simply put: hand-to-hand combat.
Although it is used by nearly all ninja, only a few of them use it as their primary fighting style like Rock Lee and his teacher Might Guy for example, who are experts of many taijutsu techniques. Example of taijutsu techniques are Dynamic Entry and Leaf Whirlwind. The Hyūga clan's Gentle Fist, however, makes extensive use of chakra and demands great skill in its control. The taijutsu techniques are the right choices for those that want to save their time and chakra, or for those who rely on their physical attributes. It can also be used uniquely in collaboration with ninjutsu to create nintaijutsu techniques.

Bukijutsu:(武器術, Literally meaning: Weapon Techniques), is a subcategory of Taijutsu but the skill itself branches into many different specialized uses of weapons.. All ninja use a weapon at some point in their careers, but not all do so regularly. Weapons can be just as useful on the battlefield as any other jutsu in a ninja's arsenal, either due to the weapon's design, its special abilities, or the unique way in which a ninja combines it with his or her other skills; ninja frequently coat their weapons with their chakra to alter the weapon's properties, a process called chakra flow.

  • Shurikenjutsu: (手裏剣術, Literally meaning: sword hidden in the hand techniques) Users of this skill master the use of small hand-held projectiles such as the shuriken, kunai, senbon & windmill shuriken. Less common forms of Shurikenjutsu are caltraps and knives.
  • Kenjutsu: (剣術, Literally meaning: Sword Technique) Users of this skill master the use of swords. Swords come in varying shape and size, but do not include knives. Anything from a sword sword, a 2hand wakizashi, and not-so-ordinary forms like the infamous Seven Swordsmen of the Mist.
  • Kayakujutsu: (火薬術, Literally meaning: Gunpowder Techniques) Users of this skill master the use of explosive tags and other types of volatile compounds. These range between gunpowder to liquid substances like nitroglycerin. While extremely potent and deadly, the users themselves are not immune to their own explosions. One must be careful while using Kayakujutsu, as timed wrong or improperly placed could lead to the foe using their own weapons against the user. Purchasable explosive such as explosive tags(Not C4) have an explosive damage equivalent to a ranked weapon's base damage(So a D Rank explosive tag would have 200 damage, while A Rank nitroglycerin would be 500 damage).
  • Bojutsu: (棒術, Literally meaning: Staff Techniques) Users of this skill master the use of staves, as well as spears and/or lances. The size and form of this weapon type ranges from simple wooden poles, to lances, to tridents, etc. This weapon type has long melee range, easily overcoming multiple opponents if wielded correctly.
  • Tessenjutsu: (鉄扇術, Literally meaning: Iron-fan Technique) Users of this skill master the use of fans. Small bladed fans, large heavy steel fans, etc. Depending on the size, type and material- fans can serve a host of uses. Ranging from small sharp fans for deflecting projectiles to close in and slice up unsuspecting opponents, to wielding enormous steel fans as both a shield and wind barrier.
  • Kusarigamajutsu: 鎖鎌術, Literally meaning: Chain Sickle Technique) Users of the skill master the use of sickles. The size and shape of the sickle varies from a one-handed short sickle, to a two-hand scythe. The sickle is just one side of the weapon, attached somewhere to the sickle is a chain which serves as the other end of the weapon. These types of weapons serve as both melee and mid-range weapons with a diverse move set.
  • Kyujutsu: (弓術, Literally meaning: Bow Technique) Users of this skill master the use of bows. Size and shape varies from one-handed crossbow launchers, two-hand bows and in special cases, guns. Most common types of these weapons are associated with ammo like arrows, bolts and steel balls. Higher grade weapons of this nature even use the user's own chakra as a source of ammunition.
  • Kugujutsu: (傀儡使い, Literally meaning: Puppet Technique) Users of this skill master the use of puppets controlled by chakra strings. Size and shape varies, as the puppets reflect many living creatures aside from humans. Puppets are not limited to depictions of living creatures however. Complex mechanism weapons also count as puppetry.

Genjutsu: (幻術, Literally meaning: Illusionary Techniques) is one of the main jutsu categories which uses chakra. Unlike ninjutsu, the effects of genjutsu are not real, being only illusions experienced by those who fall victim to it. According to the Second Mizukage, genjutsu falls under the broad category of Yin Release.
A genjutsu is created when a ninja controls the chakra flow of a target's cerebral nervous system, thereby affecting their five senses. This is frequently used to create false images and/or trick the body into believing its has experienced physical pain. Genjutsu can also be used to manipulate others - similar to brainwashing - by feeding the victim illusive suggestions. Most genjutsu is performed visually, requiring the target make eye contact with the caster.

Other methods include integration with nature transformation, as shown with Water and Lightning Release, and in the anime, ingesting special pills that activate when the target sleeps. Audible genjutsu is deemed the most dangerous because the user can trap victims from long distances.
Those under the influence of genjutsu will either appear to be unconscious or continue to move around under the pretense of the genjutsu. The latter is very effective in battle as a genjutsu user can make themselves appear to be somewhere else and attack the victim from behind or change the environment to make the victim see a flat plain where there is a steep cliff.

A victim's chakra flow, if disrupted enough, can break the caster's influence. This "Genjutsu Dissipation" (幻術解, Genjutsu Kai, Literally meaning: Illusion Technique Dissipation) or "Genjutsu Reversal" (幻術返し, Genjutsu Gaeshi, Literally meaning: Illusion Technique Reversal) can be done by the victim themselves, (assuming they realise they're under a genjutsu's influence) or an ally who emits chakra into them; jinchūriki who have formed a good relationship with their tailed beast prefer the latter method whenever they need it. Other methods exist through clan benefits such as Doujutsu or even the Aburame's insects.

Collaboration Techniques: These are not under any one specialization, however I include them for knowledge and stipulations. Collaboration techniques are jutsu where two or more people perform complimentary techniques with the intent to work together. Often, these techniques when formed, create even more powerful jutsu for various purposes. The rules for creating such techniques are that any and all collaboration techniques must be registered and trained(not purchased) by both users beforehand. Each Collaboration technique can only be performed by two(or more) shinobi with chakra stats within 75% of each other's chakra stat. So a shinobi with a super low chakra stat could not synchronize with a shinobi with a much higher chakra stat. When successfully performing a Collaboration technique, the power of the technique is the combination of both all original jutsu used in the collaboration.
